Spotlight On The Chinese Agricultural Trading And Investing
With a population of 1.3 Billion contained in a landmass 1.25 times the size of Australia, the Chinese Agricultural sector is a large industry.
The challenges that face the Chinese Agricultural sectors include the gap between production of beef, mutton, poultry meat and milk in China and significantly lower than average national consumption. Similarly, the supply of sheep's wool is also dramatically undersupplied.
These difficulties are primarily due to poor breeding techniques, slow industrialization and a dramatically increased consumption of each of these products in recent years.
The Chinese agricultural sector is looking for cooperative partners for development of this industry, with support from all levels of the Chinese government. There is a strong favoritism for Australian livestock, equipment and training in this sector, as the international reputation for Australian agricultural livestock, products and techniques is well deservedly high.
The Australian Agricultural sector has the potential to develop strong ties with the largest market in the world, and work with the Chinese sector to develop better techniques, and to improved production and output.
Investment Opportunities
In order to overcome the imbalance between supply and demand, the Chinese government has introduced various preferential investment policies to attract foreign investment, including joint ventures and cooperative agreements in the Chinese livestock industry.
Since China's entry into the WTO, the central Chinese Government has allocated the equivalent of over 30 billion Australian dollars to several provinces for the specific purpose of development of the livestock industry. These funds are to be used for various projects, including:
Offering incentives to attract foreign investors
Improvement of the investment environment
Development of the "village" to boost the ability of peasant farmers to purchase additional livestock and equipment
Acquisition of stock and equipment from foreign sources
This allocation of funding, with support from Central, Provincial and local governments represents a lucrative opportunity for the Australian Agricultural Sector. It is anticipated that incentives being offered to foreign investors, coupled with an industry wide drive for improvement, will result in large potential profits for investors and cooperative partners.
Livestock
The undersupply of livestock in China has prompted agricultural organizations to seek foreign livestock supplies. The focus for the industry is sustainable development, and improvement of the entire system, which would give the Australian agricultural sector the opportunity to participate in several generation of breeding, selection and improvement of livestock. AITA provides a link between foreign suppliers to prospective purchasers in China.
Australian livestock are considered by Chinese agricultural experts to be of a high quality and suitable for import to China. There are therefore highly sought after, leading to many opportunities for Australian suppliers to export cattle, sheep and poultry to China.
Other products
AITA has customers in China who are interested in importing a range of other agricultural products, including:
Seeds, especially those suitable for growth in hot, dry conditions
Plants suitable for growth in greenhouse conditions, and
Equipment suitable for use in the beef or dairy cattle industries
